Julia,

HOLIDAY! As a new business owner, there are many things I don’t have a clue about. One of them is how people manage to go on vacation during the summer. You see, I don’t have children. I have no one running around my house screaming, “Woohoo! It’s summer! Let’s go to Disneyland!”

In my mind, I thought my photography business would pick up. I assumed that families would have more time in the summer to get their pictures taken. Apparently not; they all seem to be on vacation. Thus, I will make this newsletter brief, because everyone I know is lying in the sun, reading the most recent best seller!

Therefore, I tip my margarita to my three favorite types of people:

  • · those who can afford to go on vacation, because they have the money.
  • · those who can’t really afford it, but go anyway because they know it’s a great thing to do for themselves and their families
  • · those who can’t go because of their financial or business commitments (like me!)

Salute! I wish everyone have a safe and fabulous summer!

What is a Head Shot Party? It’s a way to help people get a great-looking, affordable head shot for their business cards, website, advertising, etc.

How does it work? Come to Julia Heart Studios between 12:00pm and 4:00pm on July 28th to get your Head Shot! I’ll take several pictures of you and let you pick your favorite. I will then “tweak” the image and send it to you via e-mail. You will receive a large, medium, and small format in both color and black-and-white. You get all of this for only $50.00!

Do you hate the head shot you have now? For only $50.00, you can get a new one! As a bonus, I will put your new head shot on my website with a direct link to your business! Wow! This is an unbeatable deal—and I look forward to seeing you on the 28th!

Your Local City- I’ve been very blessed this year to become acquainted with many people who have helped me beyond just offering or selling me goods and services. Tonya and Michael Hofmann are people who go above and beyond for me every chance they get. They see the fire in my eyes and know that the dreams I have for my business heavily outweigh my actual knowledge of how to run one. They give me great advice, hold my hand when I need it, and help guide me out of my comfort zone.

I hear lots of people talk about advertising for small businesses, but few of them actually cater to people with itty-bitty businesses. Your Local City helps such folks get a presence on the web, a chance to be on a radio show, and their information handed out at events. All of this for an entire year for as little as $250.00 Find me one other company that does that and I’ll be happy to sign up. In the meantime, if you need the help, call the Hofmanns.

For those of you who used to watch Ally McBeal, this won’t sound too strange, but for those who didn’t, here is the premise: I always have a favorite song running through my head, a song that moves me and defines a moment in my life. A song I go out and buy or hope the radio will play while I’m listening. A song that makes me smile, cry, or sing at the top of my lungs in the car. My song right now is “Blackbird” by the Beatles. I have always loved the song, but the other day I was listening to my “I am Sam” CD and heard the Sarah McLachlan version. After I had a good cry, I realized it was my new song.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night,
Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
Mm-mm. All your life,
You were only waiting for this moment to arrive.

I’d love to know: What’s your song and why?
The Tyler Municipal Rose Garden is the world's largest rose garden. It contains 38,000 rose bushes representing 500 varieties of roses set in a 22-acre garden.

Photography is fun, no matter which side of the camera you're on!

Susan Morrow was my Grammar Grouch this month. I love Susan with all my heart. I promise you, if there is an error on this page...it's my fault! Thank you Spooky!

Warmest regards,
