Sherry,

I often wonder where I would be and what I would be doing if I hadn’t decided to become a full time photographer. Would I be working in an office, or perhaps still painting houses? Hanging a business sign on your door and calling yourself a professional is a very scary thing. There are days I question myself to the point of obscurity. Maybe I’m being selfish, maybe I should get a “real” job, and maybe no one will like my pictures. I would like to encourage everyone to take what they love to do, and do it more often. Everyone I know is so talented, so gifted, and so amazing. I know everyone can’t up and quit their job to live their dreams. But maybe there is a way to “work” less and do what you love to do more. Just a thought. If there is any way I can help you live your dream more, please let me know. I would love to help.

In the spirit of sharing the gift of photography and getting a prize for being brave enough to do so, I’m having a Photography Contest! I’m going to keep it as simply as possible. If you send me your picture by April the 15th I will post it on my website. Voting will take place for one month, the winner to be announced in the May Photo-Gram Newsletter. (May 20th) The winner will be based on e-mailed votes. The person who receives the most votes wins.

Grand Prize: Free Sitting Fee with yours truly and 20 free 5x7 photographs from the session. Don’t live in Texas? Not to worry, your gift is fully transferable. Give it to someone you love that lives in or around Austin.

I’ve always considered myself a fortunate person and most of my good fortune has come from the people I meet and the friends I have. This week I had the great fortune of getting to photograph downtown Austin from the roof of another very tall building. I want to say thank you to Sam for making this all possible. Sam is one of the nicest people I know. If you’re ever downtown and need a fabulous place to eat, Murphy’s Deli is the place to go!

By now, everyone who receives this newsletter has figured out that I’m a family photographer. I love taking pictures of families, children, and pets. Not buildings, not movies stars, not fast cars, but families. Did you know you can bring your pet with you when you get your family’s picture taken? Bring your dogs, cats, snakes, guinea pigs, rabbits, almost anything. Now horses, goats, pigs and chickens may be hard to get into the studio, but I can always come to you. Location is not as important as the amount of fun we have and being able to get the WHOLE family in the picture!

Texas is the only state to have the flags of 6 different nations fly over it. They are: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederate States, and the United States.

Photography is fun, no matter which side of the camera you're on!

This months grammar helper was AGAIN my fiance' Paul Beck. Hooray for Paul for all his help and all his patience. Paul is one of the main people who calms me down when I can't figure out what I'm doing.

Warmest regards,

Julia Heart
